Free Parking

After boot camp this morning, my roommate and I were walking back to the car and she stopped and pointed at the ground.  Next to the meter was a pile of change. Good change.  Like, laundry money change.

There was a very brief moment where both of us considered picking it up, but she said, "We should leave it for someone who needs it."

Thank you to the generous person who clearly will make someone's day today in Santa Monica.

(Which also reminds me of these guys.)

It doesn't get much better.

I got a text from my roommate that I had a present waiting for me at home. [Exciting!]

Gift fly-bys are awesome no matter what.  And SECRET gift fly-bys are even better.  Looks like girl's handwriting on the note...but I have NO IDEA who it's from.

Um, awesome.
(and Happy Easter to YOU, mystery gift giver)

I'd be a blocker, not a jammer. For sure.

Went to Roller Derby tonight and, as usual, there's always a conversation about what YOUR derby name would be if you skated.

Some of the ladies have such great ones:
Janis Choplin
Tara Armov

Roxy Cotton
Titty Titty Bang Bang
Gori Spelling

Typically I have pretty awful ideas for mine.  And I get oddly sad about not having a potential name for a sport I don't even intend to play.

But tonight, it happened.  We came up with my perfect Roller Derby name:

Punchess Pilate

Yessss.

The Huxtables

Today wasn't great.

But it did end with my roommate and I watching a small marathon of Cosby Shows.  (Thank you, Netflix Watch Instantly)

I grew up on that show.  And it's just as amazing today as it was then.

You'll need to watch this.
(or save it for a rainy day)

And I'll be sure to post video of my family in various similar situations once I gather them.

It's that time of year...

I knew i was coming home to a wreck of a room and wasn't looking forward to it.  I usually try to make my room spotless before I get on a plane because there's nothing better than coming back to that after a long trip.

However, coming home to these on my bed made it much, much better.
Yay, roommates and my favorite Valentine candy.

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

I had my roommate ship something to my hotel and she added a little surprise present.  So fun. (Thanks, roommate!)  My British (and all male) vendors haven't been on the silly band train and weren't interested in hopping on.  And the rest of the people in the office just looked at me funny when I offered to share with everyone.

BUT....when I came back at the end of the day, someone had created a little rock n' roll scene on my desk.

That snowman is killing it on the guitar.

Highly Recommended

I know everyone reads the news on their Blackberry/Kindle/iPad/computer now, but next time your packing up things in your house, buy a newspaper to wrap your breakables.

My roommate and I have been doing some moving lately and today as I was clearing off some shelves I found a picture frame wrapped in a newspaper page from Orlando -- 1999. There's something organic about physically touching news and stories from the past.

Beater.

I'm speaking of a chocolate beater, not an old car.

Made cupcakes tonight and LOVE that my roommate likes licking the beater as much as I do. It clearly tastes better from there.

She was telling me that as a kid she had to share because there were four kids and only two pieces of chocolate goodness.

Today, my friends, I was grateful that I only grew up with one brother.

Normally I hate the BH

I was trying to park my car last night and the guy parked in front of me (who had already walked away from his car) started heading back towards me and said, "Do you want me to move up a little so you can fit?"

People, that doesn't happen in LA.

In fact, my roommate had to take the bus to work one day because someone had parked so close to her that she couldn't get out. And my other roommate was scolded by a fellow parallel parker.

So, yay Beverly Hills man in your sexy Landrover. Thanks!

Semi-permanent

Dear Future Husband,

I know it's weird that I'm writing you letters instead of just chatting over a glass of wine, but it's just easier this way. And, come on....letters?! They're timeless and almost a thing of the past. I'm trying to hold on to that. But you know this....you know me.

Remember that roommate thing? Well, here's another reason roommates are kind of awesome.

As per usual, I got sick right before my big event and there's no option to call in sick. Early mornings, long days, tired feet...suck it up.

And tonight, my roommate walked in the door and said, "I bought us presents. This is going to make you all better."

So we sipped on boiled Coke and Ginger Root. And, sweetheart, I feel better...I do. So I think she could live with us off and on. Ya know, when I need fashion advice and when we get sick.

Deal?

Kisses and kisses,
Rebecca

Dear Future Husband,

Can we have roommates?

I realize we'll need privacy and it's not that I don't love you enough to solely spend time with YOU...but...I really like being able to get ready for a night out and compare outfits with my roommate.

Ya know, share belts and shoes and ask if I should wear the silver bracelet or the gold earrings. It's sort of irreplaceable.

We'll chat later about it. Can't wait for BBQ nights, frequent flier miles and dance parties in our living room.

Kisses and kisses and kisses,
Rebecca

Yuck.

Every time I'm sick, there comes a moment when all I want is my mom. What I wouldn't give to have her show up and rub my hair and bring me Sprite.

Yesterday, I couldn't get out of bed. And I haven't felt that awful in a long time. About half way through the day, my roommate knocked on the door because she hadn't heard me shuffle all day and was concerned. She brought me cold water and wanted to know if I needed anything.

It felt like that glass of water almost saved my life.

Oh, Chinatown and dating...

Today having Dim Sum and being coerced in to taking whatever hot dish the mean cart lady wanted to give us...we tried some sort of rice cake shrimp concoction.

I made Carolyn try it first and her immediate response was, "It's...tast-ee?" (a dash and two E's meaning a high note ending.)

Which we all decided was the equivalent of answering the question, "How was your date last night?" with "Um...he was nice? (question mark, question mark, raised eyebrows, scrunched nose)"

We just weren't that into the rice cakes.
Nor the emotional heartache we received from the cart lady whose dim sum we turned our nose up to.

But a sunshine all the same.

Knob Creek

We're in an economic crisis. And my roommate and I are trying to be sensitive to it.

We went to an art show tonight that was expensive to get in, expensive to drink at and....if you took gas into consideration...expensive to get to. However, we're resourceful and wanted to be sure to be prepared. So we brought what every recession-minded, late-twenties girl SHOULD bring.

A flask. Full of whiskey.

And in mid-conversation, with a friend I haven't seen in ages, I pulled out the flask to refill our drinks. He immediately paused in his thought and said, "I knew I loved you."

And I love him...and my recession-minded flask.

Because you never know...

Soooo, my night consisted of agreeing to go to a bar that I knew might not be awesome. And then, ultimately running into two of the worst dates I've ever had. Both of which, happened over two years ago.

Fine.

However, luckily, I brought my roommate with me and she had a random stranger walk up from behind...place her shirt tag back in her shirt, and then walk away -- anonymously.

Definition of kindness...yes...100%.

If you hate the book, don't see the movie.

But stay for the credits.

Which is basically my review of "He's Just Not that In You"...but that's besides the point.

Today I was relishing in the rain and realized that in Florida you take rainbows for granted, because you see them all the time. This morning I saw one and couldn't wait to stop and take a picture and call it my sunshine. However, pictures never do it justice.

The rainbow was great, but what's even cooler is after I took the picture, I realized the street sign said Clark. Like Carolyn Clark, my roommate. Yay.
