Pretty sure I still have dirt under my fingernails from gardening...but I'm ok with that. Our backyard is looking like a little greenhouse and it's great. And today I ran into one roly poly after another.
These little guys made me happier than I expected. Roly Poly is my alias for LA Guerrilla Gardening and it was fun to hang with my peeps for the day.

One Day Without Shoes
Today we walked barefoot down Abbot Kinney in Venice to show our support for TOMS. Even Google and Microsoft went a day without shoes. For every pair of shoes you buy, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child who needs them. It's called One for One and you should check it out -- sweet kicks too.

Walking around barefoot reminded me of home and the day they decided to pave our street. I remember it being a big deal in the neighborhood but I had no idea what it would do to my feet. My friends and I used to run around barefoot all the time and my toes were used to the rocks and the rough. But once they paved our street my feet became, well, wussies.
And today they were nervous at first, sort of stepping lightly and watching for obstacles. But I think they remembered where they came from and when the music started, they were happy to dance around all free and non-covered like.

Highly Recommended
I know everyone reads the news on their Blackberry/Kindle/iPad/computer now, but next time your packing up things in your house, buy a newspaper to wrap your breakables.
My roommate and I have been doing some moving lately and today as I was clearing off some shelves I found a picture frame wrapped in a newspaper page from Orlando -- 1999. There's something organic about physically touching news and stories from the past.

Easter and Ears
Yea, yea yea....Easter, friends, food, candy...heartwarming stuff.
Check.
But more importantly, I came to terms with something yesterday and appropriately enough, it was on Easter -- a day known for its big ears.
Big ears run in my family and I've forever been in a fight with them. Well, I guess my hair has. In nearly every picture of me since I had hair (which wasn't until I was 2 1/2, mind you) one of my ears is peeping out from behind my hair. Every year, I would anxiously await for my yearbook photo and low and behold, every time, ear.
In a conversation with a friend last night, I discovered I'm not alone. And I'm just going to own it, and make it my trademark.
Done.
Check.

Some rest.
You know those days when you wish you didn't have to get out of bed... and there's nothing you want more in the whole entire world then to just curl up and stay there?
Well, people, today I did that. I didn't budge until late in the afternoon. And two years ago I would have been angry with myself and my laziness. But today, I was so grateful that I COULD do that.
Sometimes single, no kids, no responsibility pays off.

Success!
As a wise man once said, “April Fools Day is for amateurs. You NEVER need an excuse to mess with people's heads.”
I'm pretty sure that quote has been stolen twice now, but I like it.
And today, I did it. I fooled quite a few people. So what if the wise man would call me an amateur. Oh the power of having a huge email list to mess with people.
For Guerrilla Gardening, we posted The White Stripes had been confirmed for an upcoming event. And people bit. They bit hard. Sorry guys.
Sort of.
